Conference Venue

The venue will be the famous Bibliotheca Alexandrina, one of the most fascinating touristic and cultural attractions in the world. The conference offers a great opportunity for aquaculture researchers, practitioners, decision makers and other stake holders to meet, network and discuss all aspects of aquaculture in Africa. Exhibitors from all over the globe are expected to exhibit their products in the amazing exhibition Center. Visits to the most famous touristic attractions in Egypt will be arranged. AFRAQ2021 Programme Themes

AFRAQ2021 technical program will aim to cover developmental issues including latest research on aquaculture in Africa. The thematic plenary and technical parallel sessions will comprise submitted oral and poster presentations. AFRAQ2021 will feature an international trade exhibition, industry forums, student sessions and activities, satellite workshops (and training sessions) and various meetings/forums on aquaculture development in Egypt and Africa. The theme for this inaugural event will be “Sustainable Aquaculture - Feeding Africa”.

Egyptian Aquaculture

Prof. Abdel-Fattah El-Sayed received his PhD degree in Aquaculture from Michigan State University, USA. He authored and co-authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications on aquaculture and fisheries disciplines, in addition to 4 books, 3 book chapters and several technical reports to international organizations. He also participated in over 50 international, regional and national conferences, in more than 30 countries. He has also served as visiting professor to scientific institutions in many countries. Prof. El Sayed is an aquaculture and fisheries consultant for many organizations, including the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, the World Fisheries Trust (WFT), the WorldFish, the African Union, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He currently serves as a member of the editorial board or advisory panel of a number of regional and internal aquaculture and fisheries journals and magazines, including: Aquaculture Research, Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Research and Aquafeed International. He was a member of the National Scientific Committee for University Staff Promotion in Egypt (2009-2015). Prof. El-Sayed was awarded the following prizes: Honorary Life Member of the World Aquaculture Society; the Alexandria University Incentive Award in 1996, Excellence Award in Science in 2015 and discretionary Award in Science in 2011; Rashid Bin Humaid (Late Emir of Ajman, UAE) Award in Science in 2002. He was selected among the best 2% of the world’s Scientists, in the list issued by Stanford University, USA in 2020.

Unlocking Aquaculture Prospects in Africa and the Near East

Dr. Elwaer served as Secretary of Environmental General Authority (Minister of Environment) of the Government of Libya in Tripoli and was elected President of the African Ministerial Congress on Environment (AMCEN) from 2004 to 2006.

In 2007, he joined the African Union as Director for Human Resources, Science and Technology, and became Director for Administration and Human Resources Management in 2009.

During his career at the African Union (AU), Dr. Elwaer has supervised and managed the Establishment of several African unique initiatives and institutions.

Before joining FAO, he served as Adviser to the President on Global Advocacy and Partnerships at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he also served as the IsDB Spokesperson and Director of Cooperation, Partnerships, Regional Integration and Resource Mobilization from 2014 to 2017. He was further appointed IsDB’s Sherpa at G20 and Heads of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
